The PSDI initiative is funded through EPSRC DRI funding (EP/X032701/1 and EP/X032663/1). We have and continue to generate a diverse set of outputs, including the resources that make up our data infrastructure for the physical sciences.
PSDI Resources
PSDI both creates and facilitates access to a variety of resources including data sources, services, tools, and guidance. These resources enable researchers to access and combine reference quality data from both commercial and open sources; share data, software and models with the community, make use of technologies such as AI to explore data; and learn how to make their research open and FAIR. You can find out more about the resources that we provide from our What We Provide page, where you can view the resources by type or by resource theme (a collection of related resources). You can also read about some of our resource highlights at the following links:
Publications
PSDI members and our partners are actively engaged in research, frequently publishing and presenting on various topics. These include not only physical sciences and scientific computing but also related areas such as digital notebooks, research data management, FAIR practices, machine learning, and AI. Additionally, PSDI produces reports summarizing its activities, including outcomes and recommendations from earlier stages, as well as insights gathered from community engagement initiatives like workshops and meetings. Materials from webinars and conference presentations are also made available for the community’s reference. You can find many of our publications on our Zenodo community: https://zenodo.org/communities/psdi/.
Engagement Activities
PSDI organizes a variety of events for the community, including workshops, webinars, forums, and training courses to help address challenges in sharing and managing physical sciences research data and to learn about the challenges and needs of our audience.
PSDI organizes both formal in-person training sessions and informal events that offer valuable learning opportunities. These opportunities are promoted through our events pages, newsletter, and social media channels. Examples of past events include:
- Forum for Librarians and Research Support Professionals in Research Data for the Physical Sciences: A two-day event bringing together librarians and research support professionals to explore challenges and solutions in research data management.
- Creating Communities Around Best Practices and Common Challenges in Data Workshop: Held at the International Digital Curation Conference, this workshop focused on fostering collaboration within the physical sciences community to address shared data management challenges and promote best practices.
- Chemical and Materials Machine Learning (CAMML) School 2025: A program for PhD students, concentrating on machine learning applications in materials science and molecular simulations.
These in-person training events are in addition to the guidance materials and self-paced courses and tutorials that we provide. You can find more information about these on the Training section of the PSDI Knowledge Base.
PSDI hosts regular webinars covering a broad range of subjects, which are promoted on our Events page. You can participate in these webinars by using the links provided on the event pages. Additionally, recordings of past webinars are available on our YouTube channel. To see a list of previous webinars and to access descriptions and links to watch them, see the Recorded Webinars page in the training section of the Knowledge Base.
